Earlier this year, an act known as Sister Crayon had crept out from the multicolored shadows of the industry and dropped a haunted trip-hop album that has scarcely left my stereo for every day after it's release. Packed with dreamland melodies and beautiful, stealthy operatic whispers that float over every track, Sister Crayon's debut effort Bellow bleeds out an ocean of promise. Unfolding like stories sung from the transparent lips of a maiden phantom, Bellow, will weave its magic into you spine, up the intricate wiring and settle inside your of your soul like dormant memories reborn.
When I hear this album, the scents, sights, and sounds of my childhood come bounding back. I remember my first kiss, the dread of what lay beyond that dark basement staircase, and how the world always seemed so much larger when viewed with such fresh and tiny eyes. I can smell the fires of autumn burning in the distance and hear the laughter of children as they dare one another to walk amongst the graves of their local cemetery during the midnight hour. It has been a long time since I myself had found an album to be so visual and that is why Sister Crayon's album, Bellow deserves to be played on repeat.
Recently, we got to ask the band a bunch of questions in this in depth interview, be sure to check it out! Third Eye Drawings: An Interview with Sister Crayon
