Things That Books Have Made Me Realize

  1. I’ll only be happy if I have magical powers of some sort. Ok, I didn’t really learn this so much as decide this after reading Harry Potter, the Golden Compass and various comic books.
  2. Finding your soul mate will be that much harder with the romanticism in literature. So many books make you go “Awwwwww! I wish MY boyfriend would do that!” and your bar goes up a little higher for every time you do that either out loud or in your mind.
  3. Movies suck. Ok, not really… especially seeing as I’m really a huge movie buff. What I really mean is this: movies suck when they’re adapted from a book… most of the time. There are a few exceptions to this, but they’re rare and even if they’re worthy adaptations, the book is still almost always, better.
  4. The world is much more awesome with adjectives.
  5. Children’s stories still make me smile.
  6. Teen fiction isn’t something to be ashamed to read. A lot of these books are full of imagination and are written by really excellent authors. Plus, they almost always make me feel smarter since I can usually get through a teen fiction read in a day or two.
  7. Talking animals are awesome… Unless you’re reading Animal Farm
  8. Villainous characters deserve to have their side of the story told too… Books like Gregory Maguire’s Wicked and The Ugly Stepsisters are fun ways to see a classic story take on new light
  9. Graphic novels are just as good as regular novels, if not better
  10. Reading is an essential part of growing up. We need to continue to teach our kids and youth that this is something that is absolutely necessary. Without books, I feel like we don't develop our imaginations as well... Just going to see the movie version of the book is cheating and doesn't allow our minds to play out the stories ourselves and visualize the characters based on the words that the author has provided. Reading is key.
