Underneath the Covers: Florence + the Machine and Taylor Swift

Today is another edition of Underneath the Covers. Last week, we featured a cover of Linking Park doing “Rolling in the Deep” as made famous by the lovely Adele. This week, I’m going to introduce to TWO covers… first and foremost, my gal Florence Welch as she does a cover of Beyonce’s Halo. In my opinion, it’s much better than the original version and I have even turned Florence’s version into a ringtone.

The second cover I’m going to share with you comes from a gal you either love or hate. I personally have a love/hate relationship with Taylor Swift for a couple of reasons… Love because she writes her own music and can be a really positive inspiration for young girls. Hate because of the same reasons… sometimes Swift forgets the impact she has on young girls and uses her songwriting to write spiteful songs and essentials bullies others through her tunes… kind of like a sweet, young innocent blonde girl, country version of Eminem, sometimes.

Regardless of my feelings for the girl, I can’t deny that she has some serious raw talent. I heard that she was doing a cover of one of my favourite bands of 2010, Mumford & Sons and I was all like “Sh*t no she didn’t!” so I listened to it hesitantly and was blown away. Swift ROCKED the cover. I then proceed to make my hubby listen to the tune, despite a pure hatred for Swift and, the young country star too, blew him away. Check out Swift as she covers “White Plank Page”:

  1. Oooh. I like Taylor's cover. I have a love/hate with her also, and I can never watch her sing. Ever.
